Cincinnati, New York Make Deal
Tuesday, July 31st, 1934
Both sides appear content with the trade finalized today that will send 30-year-old RHP Tiny Chaplin and 23-year-old 1B Frank McCormick to the New York Yankees, while the Cincinnati Reds will receive 36-year-old CF Earle Combs.

"This is a move that filled a few gaps in our roster," said Joe Unknown, Reds general manager.

For his part, the Yankees GM said the trade was made "in the best interest of our organization's future." BNN analysts reported that on paper the trade seemed to be a plus for both ball clubs.

In his career Chaplin has made 58 appearances with a 15-13 record and tossed 246.1 innings with 84 strikeouts. Batters have hit .262 against him, his lifetime ERA stands at 3.40 and he has accumulated 5 saves.

In the 1934 season Combs is hitting .324 with no home runs.
