Magic was in the air and on the mound at Civic Field today as Hilton Smith held the Seattle Rainiers spellbound in his 12-0 shutout victory. The Sacramento Solons pitcher went the distance, rang up 7 strikeouts, walked 0 and held the Rainiers to 4 hits to garner the win.

"He just had us in his thrall," Seattle manager Jim Burns said later. "We couldn't put anything together against him."

On the season Smith has 17 wins and 1 loss and a 2.97 ERA.
