Giants Even World Series
Again With Newsom's Shutout
|
Bobo
Newsom knew he couldn't win the series for the
New York Giants.
Down 3-2, it would take more than one start. The
best he could do, he figured, was extend the series
and give the Polo Grounds faithful a good time.
Check and check.
The New York
right-hander threw a complete game shutout against
the red-hot Sacramento
Solons to get the Giants even in the series,
striking out 6 along the way. The Giants will be
looking to keep the momentum tomorrow.
Newsom, who was born in Hartsville, South Carolina,
threw 131 pitches over 9 innings, while allowing no
earned runs.
"Getting ahead of the hitters was the key," said
Newsom.
The next game is scheduled for tomorrow at the Polo
Grounds. The scheduled starters for the game are Fay
Thomas for Sacramento and Carl
Hubbell for New York.
