Grove Pitches Philadelphia to Shutout Victory
Sunday, October 18th, 1931
Lefty Grove bent a little, but he didn't break against the Sacramento Solons. The Philadelphia Athletics pitcher hurled a 8-hit 1-0 shutout in a fine performance, surrendering 3 walks and tallying 5 strikeouts.

"Lefty is good at getting out of jams," Athletics manager told reporters after the game. "He's almost more effective when he gets guys on base or gets behind in the count, because he uses your aggressiveness against you."

Thus far this season, Grove has worked 306.1 innings with 196 strikeouts en route to a 25-6 record and a 2.29 ERA.
