Davis Takes Charge, Blanks Los Angeles
Saturday, August 29th, 1931
There was no spell, no black magic -- just good pitching.
Curt Davis of the Seattle Rainiers blanked the Los Angeles Angels, 2-0, at Dugdale Park today, and he did it the old-fashioned way. After finishing the 4-hit, complete-game shutout, he was all smiles.
"I threw a lot of my pitches for strikes in this game," Davis said. "I mixed it up and tried keeping these guys off balance."
Davis walked 1 and struck out 1 in the victory.
"He was throwing his breaking ball for strikes and we never capitalized on any of his mistakes," Angels manager Al Borie said later.
Davis has fashioned a 18-8 mark for the season, 3.54 ERA and thrown 236.1 innings in 27 starts. Opposing clubs are batting .274 against him.
