Conger Voted June's Top Rookie Tuesday, July 1st, 1941 Dick Conger might not have fully digested the impact of winning June's Pacific Coast League Rookie of the Month award when he got the news earlier today, but the 20-year-old quickly learned that he was no longer your typical rookie. Posting a mark of 4-1 won-lost record will do that. In 6 starts he tossed 47 innings with 15 strikeouts and a 2.68 ERA. Opposing teams hit .279 against him during the month. Not bad for a first-year man. So far this year Conger has made 12 starts, tossed 81.1 innings, struck out 27 batters and walked 18. His record is 6-3 with a 3.65 ERA and he has limited opposing teams to a .280 batting average. |
