Red-Hot Sanford Cools Off Seattle
Tuesday, June 24th, 1941
The Seattle Rainiers were almost helpless today in their 4-0 loss to the San Francisco Seals and hurler Fred Sanford. Sanford kept the Rainiers confused all game, spinning a 5-hit shutout.

"Tip your hat to Sanford," Seattle manager Jim Burns said in his postgame interview. "He kept us off balance all night."

The 21-year-old right-hander had 2 walks and 3 strikeouts in a strong performance.

"It just happened to be one of those games where even when I made mistakes, they either fouled them off or someone would make a fine defensive play," Sanford said. "It was just one of those games that things went my way."

In 13 starts this season Sanford has rung up a 5-7 record and a 4.20 ERA.
