Hutchinson Stops Oakland Cold
Thursday, September 22nd, 1938
Fred Hutchinson kept the opposition off the scoreboard and the Seattle Rainiers were all smiles after winning 2-0 against the Oakland Oaks at Sick's Stadium today. The right-handed Hutchinson gave up no runs in his start, permitted 7 hits and had 5 strikeouts.
"If there was a stat for 'team shutout,' this would be it," Hutchinson said later. "My catcher called a great game, guys delivered at the plate and when I messed something up the guys behind me were where they needed to be."
This year Hutchinson has fashioned a 14-12 mark, 3.34 ERA and pitched 231.2 innings. Opposing clubs are batting .276 against him and he has logged 65 strikeouts.
