Doerr Goes 5-for-6
Monday, July 4th, 1938
5 times is the charm -- at least for Bobby Doerr.

The San Diego Padres second baseman tore up the Portland Beavers to the tune of 5 hits in 6 at-bats at Vaughn Street Park today. The offensive onslaught from Doerr powered the Padres to a 12-10 win.

"Doerr was a tough out today," Portland manager Mark Cooley said to the press in the postgame interview. "He hit some very good pitches with that quick bat of his. Not an easy out, that's for sure."

Bobby Doerr singled in the 1st, flied out in the 2nd, hit a two-run home run off Ad Liska in the 4th, singled in the 6th, hit a two-run home run off Bill Radonits in the 7th and singled in the 9th.

So far this year Doerr has hit .291 with 7 home runs, 49 RBIs and 62 runs scored.
