Thomas Dominates, Whitewashes Beavers
Sunday, July 26th, 1936
The Portland Beavers manager was philosophical in the clubhouse following a shutout loss to the Sacramento Solons. The Beavers were overpowered by Sacramento starter Fay Thomas, who hurled his club to victory, 3-0.

"It was just one of those games -- shake it off and do better next time," Mark Cooley said.

Over 9 innings, Thomas blanked Portland on 5 hits with 1 walk and 4 strikeouts.

"I kept them off balance. I could tell a lot of them were late on fastballs because they were fouling them off. Once you see that, it sets them up for other pitches," Thomas said.

"I set them up, where if they chased one breaking ball, they were going to chase another one."

This year Thomas has fashioned a 12-8 mark, 4.06 ERA and pitched 162 innings. Opposing clubs are batting .262 against him and he has logged 93 strikeouts.
