Simmons Stretches Hit String to 30 Sunday, May 25th, 1930 Win or lose, Al Simmons just keeps on getting base hits -- game after game after game. He picked up 2 more today and has now stretched his hitting streak to 30 games. The Philadelphia Athletics left fielder went 2-for-5 today, but it wasn't enough to win the game. His club was defeated 13-4 by the New York Yankees at Polo Grounds IV. "It's amazing to watch him hit right now, but I don't think anybody's really mentioning it," one of his teammates said. "We just don't want to jinx him." Al Simmons flied out in the 1st, flied out in the 4th, doubled in the 6th, singled in the 8th and flied out in the 9th. This season Simmons has delivered 63 hits in 150 at-bats for a .420 average with 4 home runs. He is getting on base at a .436 clip and his totals also include 30 RBIs and 25 runs scored. This year Simmons has played in 32 games. |
