AL Selects Rookie Star of the Month Tuesday, July 1st, 1941 Phil Rizzuto is still a bit shy, but then, who could blame the newest American League Rookie of the Month honoree? He hasn't been around the league long enough to fully know the ropes yet, despite the fact that he's putting up veteran-like numbers. In June the New York hitter tagged opposing pitching for a .303 average with 33 hits, 2 home runs and 17 RBIs. Rizzuto is currently batting .272 with 2 home runs, 31 RBIs and 49 runs scored. He has 81 hits in 298 at-bats. |
