Chapman Reaches 2000
Saturday, June 7th, 1941
For Ben Chapman, it was a red-letter day. The New York Yankees center fielder slapped his 2000th career hit. That his team defeated the St. Louis Browns, 13-8, made it even sweeter.
His manager paid tribute to Chapman after the game: "I've followed Ben since he came into the league," he said. "Fine ballplayer. Fine work ethic. I'm not surprised by what he's achieved."
The 32-year-old Chapman finished the day with 3 hits in 5 at-bats.
His lifetime stats show Chapman has batted .319 and collected 2000 hits, 86 home runs and 760 RBIs.
