Matlock Holds Philadelphia Scoreless
Friday, May 30th, 1941
The Philadelphia Phillies were almost helpless today in their 2-0 loss to the Boston Braves and hurler Leroy Matlock. Matlock kept the Phillies confused all game, spinning a 3-hit shutout.
"Tip your hat to Matlock," Philadelphia manager said in his postgame interview. "He kept us off balance all night."
The 34-year-old left-hander had 1 walk and 5 strikeouts in a strong performance.
"It just happened to be one of those games where even when I made mistakes, they either fouled them off or someone would make a fine defensive play," Matlock said. "It was just one of those games that things went my way."
This season Matlock has registered 5 wins and 5 losses in 10 starts with a 3.48 ERA.
