Major League Baseball Title To Los Angeles
Friday, October 18th, 1940
The creme de la creme of Major League Baseball baseball are the Los Angeles Angels. The team just put away the St. Louis Cardinals 3-1 to capture the overall title. The Angels finished the Cardinals off 4-1. Speaking with reporters after the victory, the Angels manager extolled his team, "It was pure bliss this season. From day one they put their hearts and souls into this team. When you have talented players and they work hard and play together, it doesn't take much to manage them. All I did was make the lineup card and let 'em play." During the Coast League regular season, the Angels finished second in the standings, posting a record of 87-67.
