Hartnett Gets #300
Thursday, May 30th, 1940
The crowd roared -- they knew they were seeing history -- and Gabby Hartnett was delighted, too. The 40-year-old Cubs catcher was making history with his 300th career homer. The crowd buzzed and roared again when Hartnett stuck his head out of the dugout for a curtain call.

"Never, as a kid, did I ever think I'd hit even one," he told BNN after hitting No. 300 in a 11-3 victory over Cincinnati. Hartnett went 1-for-5 in the game, had 2 runs batted in, and scored 1 run.

In his career Hartnett has accumulated a .312 batting average with 2544 hits. His totals include 458 doubles, 65 triples, 300 home runs, 814 strikeouts, 1291 runs scored, 1438 RBIs and a lifetime .376 OBP.
