Almada Sizzles -- Smokes Tigers for 5 Hits Sunday, August 20th, 1939 St. Louis Browns center fielder Mel Almada went ballistic today with the bat. He hammered the Detroit Tigers for 5 hits and drove St. Louis to a 8-7 win over Detroit at Sportsman's Park IV (AL). Mel Almada singled in the 1st, doubled in the 3rd, hit an RBI single in the 4th, singled in the 6th, hit a two-run home run off Vance Page in the 8th, flied out in the 10th and grounded out in the 12th.
