Philadelphia Bats Silenced by Feller
|
The Philadelphia Athletics had no answer today for Cleveland Indians pitcher Bob Feller. They failed to score a single run against him, losing 3-0. Philadelphia managed only 3 hits off Feller, who had 11 strikeouts.
The extraordinarily popular Feller got a standing ovation from the hometown crowd as he left the field, the applause continuing until he returned from the dugout to tip his cap to the crowd.
"Indians fans are the best fans, in my opinion," he said. "It's a great feeling to throw a shutout under any circumstances but to do it with the crowd behind you like that is just incredible."
This year Feller has made 14 starts, thrown 111.1 innings, fanned 99 batters and walked 52. His won-lost record is 8-5 with a 3.40 ERA.
