Gehrig Makes 600 Mark
"I wasn't trying to hit a homer. I just wanted to make contact."

That's what Lou Gehrig told reporters after he made baseball history today at Yankee Stadium I. The prolific slugger belted home run #600 in the New York Yankees 8-2 victory over the Chicago White Sox.

The standout first baseman collected 2 hits in 3 at-bats with 3 RBI and 2 runs scored.

"I guess this puts me in baseball's elite," said Gehrig. "I don't feel any different. I probably should, but I don't. Still, it is a nice achievement. I did get a little excited, didn't I?"

Lifetime Gehrig has played in 2547 games, batted .351 with 601 home runs and 3320 base hits.
