Blanton Hurls 3-0 Masterpiece
|
The Philadelphia Phillies had no answer today for Pittsburgh Pirates pitcher Cy Blanton. They failed to score a single run against him, losing 3-0. Philadelphia managed only 4 hits off Blanton, who had 4 strikeouts.
The extraordinarily popular Blanton got a standing ovation from the hometown crowd as he left the field, the applause continuing until he returned from the dugout to tip his cap to the crowd.
"Pirates fans are the best fans, in my opinion," he said. "It's a great feeling to throw a shutout under any circumstances but to do it with the crowd behind you like that is just incredible."
To this point in the season, Blanton shows a 2-3 record, 5 starts, 36 innings, 9 strikeouts and a 3.75 ERA.
