Beavers Rally For Late Win Over Rainiers

Portland right-hander Whitey Hilcher pitched his team to victory over the Seattle Rainiers at Sick's Stadium. The final score was 4-2. Hilcher, now 3-1, was the winner. In 9 innings, he gave up 7 hits, while striking out 0, walking 2, and allowing 2 runs. The loss makes Seattle 60-92.
The outcome might have been different for Portland, had it not been for Sam Bankhead, the 30-year old shortstop . Bankhead stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the ninth inning to put Portland up, 4-2. For the game, he was 3 for 5, including 1 double and 2 singles.
