Padres Win at Sacramento, 7-6
|
Moreing Park was the site of an exciting ballgame between the San Diego Padres and Sacramento Solons.
Sacramento got a terrific game from catcher Josh Gibson. It wasn't enough, though, to prevent the team from falling to San Diego, 7-6. Gibson was 2 for 3 with a home run and a walk. He scored 2 runs and drove in 2. Wally Hebert got the save, his 1st in 2 chances.
The Padres beat the Solons in part due to timely hitting. Case in point: the two-out single Jerry Benjamin produced in the top of the ninth. Batting against Kleinke, Benjamin gave his team a 7-6 lead when he hit a run-scoring single.
"If we play like this, we can win a lot of games," Benjamin told the San Diego Citizen.
The triumph puts San Diego at 43-37 for the season.
