Seals Get Past Oakland for 6-5 Win
|
The San Francisco Seals withstood an impressive performance by Oakland center fielder Willard Brown to defeat the Oaks, 6-5, at Seals Stadium. Brown was 4 for 5 with a double and 3 singles. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. San Francisco reliever Larry Jansen got the win, raising his record to 7-4. Johnny Lindell was tagged with the loss. Hub Kittle was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 2 of 4 save opportunities.
San Francisco, California-born Tony Lazzeri came through in the clutch. In the bottom of the eighth, with the bases loaded and the Seals trailing 5-4, he hit a 2-run single to left to put San Francisco on top.
"We cashed in when we had the chance," said San Francisco manager Mark Velez.
San Francisco, now 39-40, holds down 5th place in the Coast League.
