Sacramento pitcher Red Munger did his part in helping his team beat the San Diego Padres, 4-3. The right-hander kept opposing batters in check throughout the game. Les Webber converted his 3rd save in 4 tries. Sacramento is now 33-41, while San Diego is 39-35.
Sacramento used the timely hitting of Pepper Martin to seize the win. The pinch hitter stroked a 2-run single in the top of the ninth inning to put the Solons on top, 4-3. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a game-changer.
"One win at a time, one game at a time. We try not to get too far ahead of ourselves," Martin told the Sacramento Gazette.
