San Diego and San Francisco duked it out and the Padres came out victorious.

The San Diego Padres beat the San Francisco Seals, 9-8, at Seals Stadium. The Padres got a fine performance from right fielder Ted Williams, who was 2 for 4 with 2 doubles and a walk, while scoring 3 runs and driving in 2. Reliever Al Olsen picked up the win. His record improves to 3-2. Phil Page took the loss. The save was credited to William Thomas, his 2nd.

The result might have been different, had it not been for George Detore, the San Diego catcher. Detore had a 2-run single in the top of the ninth inning to put the Padres ahead, 9-7. For the game, Detore had 1 double and 1 single in 5 at-bats.

"This game had a little bit of everything," said Williams.

With the victory, the Padres upped their record to 27-19.
