Seattle Blanked by Smith
|
Hilton Smith led the Sacramento Solons to a 3-0 shutout victory over the Seattle Rainiers at Sick's Stadium today.
"My pitching coach told me before the game just to bear down and focus," Smith recalled later. "He said no one was going to hit me if I'm throwing a good breaking ball with good location."
Smith yielded 6 hits and had 4 strikeouts and 1 walk in the standout performance.
"I thought he put the ball where he wanted to," Seattle manager Jim Burns said. "And that's just about the whole secret to pitching."
So far this season Smith has a 1-5 record, 7 starts, 49 innings, 25 strikeouts and a 5.51 ERA.
