Stearnes, Fall Further Behind in PCL Championship
Series |
Riding the 3-hit performance
of first baseman Turkey
Stearnes, the Los
Angeles Angels got a road win against the San
Francisco Seals, 8-5, in Game 2 of the Nyquist
Trophy Series today. Stearnes went 3-4 with a home
run and 2 singles. He scored 2 times and drove in 2
for the Angels, who now lead the best-of-7 series, 2
games to 0.
Los Angeles relied on the hitting of Wally
Berger to pick up the win. The right fielder
clubbed a 2-run home run in the top of the sixth
inning to put the Angels on top, 4-1. For the game,
Berger
had 1 home run and 1 single in 5 at-bats.
"I like our moxie," said Angels manager Al Borie.
Game 3 is scheduled for Friday, October 4th, 1940.
Slated to start are Sam
Gibson for the San Francisco Seals and Jesse
Flores for the the Los Angeles Angels.
