The St. Louis Cardinals moved to within one game of the world championship today, downing the Sacramento Solons on the road at Moreing Park by a score of 8-5. Cardinals left fielder Joe Medwick was named player of the game after he went 5-5 with 5 singles, while scoring 2 times and driving in 2. The win ties the best-of-seven World Series at three games apiece.

In the bottom of the eighth, Lloyd Davenport stood in the box, looking for a pitch to hammer. The Solons were trailing 8-3, but had the bases loaded. That's when Mort Cooper made a terrific pitch and Davenport grounded out. Gone was the dream of a Sacramento comeback.

Game 7 is scheduled for tomorrow at Moreing Park. Slated to start are Ken Heintzelman for the St. Louis Cardinals and Manny Salvo for the the Sacramento Solons.
