Almost There: Sacramento On Cusp of PCL Championship Series Triumph After 10-3 Win
The Sacramento Solons moved to within one game of the Round 2 today, downing the San Diego Padres on the road at Lane Field by a score of 10-3. Solons right-hander Hilton Smith was named player of the game after a strong outing in which he threw 9 innings of 7-hit ball. The win gives the Solons a 3-1 advantage in the best-of-7 Nyquist Trophy Series.

The result might have been different for Sacramento, had it not been for Joe Cronin. The shortstop produced a 2-run single in the top of the third inning to put the Solons ahead, 2-1. For the game, Cronin had 1 double and 1 single in 5 at-bats.

"We were able to get some things going offensively," said Cronin.

Game 5 is scheduled for tomorrow. The scheduled starters for the game are Tony Freitas for the Sacramento Solons and Tiny Chaplin for the the San Diego Padres.
