Raucous Wrigley Field
Crowd Propels Angels to 9-5 Victory; Series Tied at
1 |
Oakland
catcher Ernie
Lombardi pounded Los
Angeles Angels pitchers at Wrigley Field, but
it was not enough to keep the Oaks from falling, 9-5
in Game 2 of the Nyquist Trophy Series. Lombardi was
3-4 with a home run and 2 singles. He scored 2 times
and drove in 2 and was named player of the game for
his efforts, even as he saw the Oaks slip into a 1-1
tie in the best-of-5 series.
In the bottom of the first, Los Angeles first
baseman Rip
Russell had a productive at-bat. With runners
on 1st and 2nd and two out, Russell stroked a 3-run
home run to left-center. It made the score 3-0, Los
Angeles. For the game, he was 1-4 with a home run,
while adding 3 RBI and scoring once.
"We maximized our offense today," said Los Angeles
skipper Al Borie. "That makes everyone's life
easier."
Game 3 is set to be played tomorrow at Oaks Park in
Oakland. The scheduled starters for the game are Ralph
Buxton for Los Angeles and Jim
Tobin for Oakland.
