Philadelphia Wins Eastern Championship Series!
A celebratory mood filled the air as the Philadelphia Athletics closed out the season with a 16-5 victory over the New York Giants at Shibe Park to capture the Eastern Championship Series, 4-3.

Giving the Giants credit for a hard-fought series, Athletics players said they believed throughout the postseason that their "destiny" was to be crowned National and American Leagues champions.

"We felt like this was our year all season long," said left fielder Al Simmons, who was named series MVP. "It was our destiny to win it and we did."

It was the 4th in franchise history. During the American League regular season Philadelphia put up a 98-56 record and finished first.

"They're the champions and they deserve it," said a dejected New York manager . "We played good ball, they just played better than us."
