Earl Averill of the Hollywood Stars proved that you can step out of the shadows and onto the stage if you've got the talent and the drive to hone your skills. Hard work, long hours and a tireless resolve paid off for him today in the form of the Pacific Coast League Player of the Year Award.

Averill hit for a .347 average while collecting 210 hits, 33 doubles, 7 triples, 29 home runs, 128 RBIs and scoring 123 times.

Turkey Stearnes of the Los Angeles Angels finished second in voting, while Joe Cronin of the Sacramento Solons finished third.
