Rainiers End Backer's Streak
Wednesday, April 22nd, 1931
Sacramento third baseman Lonny Backer came into today's game against the Seattle Rainiers on a hot streak. He left on a cold one.

The Rainiers did their jobs well, beating the Sacramento Solons 3-1 and holding Backer hitless to snap his 21-game hitting streak. The 24-year-old third baseman had a few words to say after finishing 0-for-4, telling reporters only that he "came up short."

"What Lonny did was exciting and quite an achievement," said Solons manager Kurt Peterson. "It's tough enough to get one hit in this league, much less go 21 games in a row. I'm even more proud of the way he handled the press coverage. He never let the frenzy get to him or affect his play."

Backer is hitting .310 this year with no home runs and 1 RBIs. He also has an OBP of .382, 4 walks and scored 5 times.
