Los Angeles's Berger Gets 2500th Hit
Friday, September 20th, 1940
Wally Berger started out as a baby-faced rookie many seasons ago. Yesterday at Wrigley Field L.A. the Los Angeles veteran joined the league's 2500-hit club. Berger achieved that milestone with a 1-for-4 day in the Angels 5-2 win over the Oakland Oaks.
He spoke to reporters in the clubhouse after the game and said, "Looking at the list of all the great players who have done this is humbling. It is a great honor to be among them."
Berger is hitting at a .329 rate over his 1984-game career. Lifetime he has 416 doubles, 68 triples and 526 home runs with 1732 RBIs and 1436 runs scored.
