San Francisco Shuts Out Hollywood, 3-0
Wednesday, June 5th, 1940
"Good pitching beats good hitting" is an old baseball adage.
Well, good pitching also beats bad hitting.
Lefty Gomez of the San Francisco Seals proved the point at Gilmore Field today, holding the Hollywood Stars to 7 hits in a complete game shutout victory.
"Gomez made us look real bad today," Stars manager Mike Heath said in his postgame interview. "He was outstanding. He was down in the zone with all his pitches. Everything was sinking."
Gomez had 3 strikeouts and gave up 1 walk as the Seals took the 3-0 win.
This season Gomez has compiled a 5-3 record with a 2.93 ERA.
