Manning Tosses 5-0 Shutout for Seattle
Saturday, May 25th, 1940
Max Manning kept the San Diego Padres hitters off balance all game long as the Seattle Rainiers pitcher blanked the Padres, 5-0.
Manning gave up 7 hits, struck out 2 and walked 3. In the postgame press conference, the right-hander was reluctant to talk about the outing at length.
"It was a nice win in a long season," he said. "I don't want to dwell too much on it."
This year Manning has fashioned a 4-4 mark, 1.73 ERA and pitched 72.2 innings. Opposing clubs are batting .236 against him and he has logged 32 strikeouts.
