Beavers End Williams's Streak
Thursday, May 16th, 1940
Ted Williams, left fielder for the San Diego Padres, gave it a good try, but his time chasing history came to an end when he went hitless in 1 tries against the Portland Beavers today. Not only did the Beavers break his 21-game hitting streak, they also beat San Diego by the score of 4-2.

"Now that the streak has ended, I can admit I'll breathe a bit easier the next time I step up to bat," Williams said, speaking with the media after the game. "It was tough because I put a little pressure on myself. Now that it's over, I will definitely be a little bit looser at the plate."

Williams has a .441 average and a .554 on-base percentage for the year. He has picked up 45 hits, 4 home runs and driven in 22 runs.
