Leonard Strokes 5 Hits
Tuesday, May 14th, 1940
It wasn't just another day at the ballpark for Buck Leonard today. Leonard went on a tear and cracked hit after hit off Sacramento pitchers. When the dust settled on the diamond at Lane Field, he had a 5-for-5 line and a day he will long remember. And the San Diego Padres had a 8-3 victory over the Solons.

"Yeah, it'll be something nice to tell the grandkids, but it won't get me a hit tomorrow," he joked in the postgame interview.

Buck Leonard hit an RBI single in the 1st, singled in the 2nd, singled in the 4th, hit a two-run home run off Hilton Smith in the 6th and singled in the 8th.

For the season Leonard has produced 42 hits in 106 at-bats for a .396 average with 2 home runs and gotten on base at a .455 clip.
