Gomez Blanks Oakland, 4-0
Wednesday, August 2nd, 1939
Lefty Gomez of the San Francisco Seals was masterful today, pitching a 5-hit shutout, 4-0, against the Oakland Oaks.
By going the distance, he was at the same time able to give his bullpen a rest, a fact appreciated by San Francisco manager Mark Velez.
"It's nice to have someone who can do that from time to time," he said. "He had command of every ball and every pitch. Great location, too."
Gomez had 7 strikeouts and no walks in the outing.
For the year Gomez has compiled a 9-9 record with a 3.42 ERA.
