Statz Reaches 2500

It was a day of mixed emotions for Los Angeles center fielder Jigger Statz, who collected his 2500th hit in the club's 6-5 loss to San Francisco. Angels and Seals fans alike cheered Statz as he reached base after his milestone hit.

"I wish the score had been different," Statz said after the game, "but it was a great moment. The standing ovation was really special... even the fans wearing Seals caps were cheering me."

Statz was 3-for-5 on the day.

In his 1976-game career Statz is hitting .296 with 2501 hits, 416 doubles, 81 triples and 67 home runs. He has scored 1363 runs and driven in 795.
