Padres Blanked by Gomez
Thursday, July 23rd, 1936
Lefty Gomez was dynamite at Lane Field today, blowing away the San Diego Padres in a shutout victory. The San Francisco Seals starter had everything working as he held the Padres to 3 hits in the 1-0 win.
"He was pure nasty out there today," said San Diego skipper Martin Abresch. "I don't think any team in the league would've had a chance against what he was bringing."
Gomez finished the game with 5 strikeouts and 5 walks.
This year Gomez has a 16-3 mark in 19 starts with a 2.98 ERA. He has given up 140 hits in 175.1 innings, struck out 101 and issued 82 walks. Opposing clubs have compiled a .219 batting average against him.
