Posedel Sparkles in Shutout Thursday, May 2nd, 1935 The Oakland Oaks had no answer today for Portland Beavers pitcher Bill Posedel. They failed to score a single run against him, losing 8-0. Oakland managed only 5 hits off Posedel, who had 3 strikeouts. The extraordinarily popular Posedel got a standing ovation from the hometown crowd as he left the field, the applause continuing until he returned from the dugout to tip his cap to the crowd. "Beavers fans are the best fans, in my opinion," he said. "It's a great feeling to throw a shutout under any circumstances but to do it with the crowd behind you like that is just incredible."
