Tiant Fires Shutout in Oaks Win
Friday, July 21st, 1933
Oakland Oaks starter Luis Tiant really did a number on the Mission Bells today, shutting them out 1-0 on 7 hits in a complete game victory. He issued 2 walks and had 8 strikeouts.
"We didn't have good at-bats," Mission manager Mike Heath. "I don't make excuses, but when we were playing the game, our energy didn't show. That comes from either extremely good pitching or extremely lousy hitting and seeing as our team has a bunch of good hitters, I have to tip my cap to Tiant."
This season Tiant has fanned 140 in 200 innings and collected a 14-7 record with a 2.43 ERA.
