Bowman at His Best, Blanks Oakland Saturday, June 24th, 1933 Portland Beavers starter Joe Bowman really did a number on the Oakland Oaks today, shutting them out 12-0 on 6 hits in a complete game victory. He issued no walks and had 2 strikeouts. "We didn't have good at-bats," Oakland manager Pete Grassi. "I don't make excuses, but when we were playing the game, our energy didn't show. That comes from either extremely good pitching or extremely lousy hitting and seeing as our team has a bunch of good hitters, I have to tip my cap to Bowman."
