Lucas Whitewashes Cubs Sunday, August 16th, 1931 Red Lucas kept the Chicago Cubs hitters from doing any damage at Braves Field today. Chicago could only muster 5 hits and take 2 walks against the right-handed Lucas, who controlled them throughout the game as Boston took the contest, 7-0. Lucas added 1 strikeout in his complete-game effort. "I don't know if I was on or if they were off today," Lucas told reporters after the shutout win. "But whatever it was, I hope it happens again next time." Lucas has posted a 9-16 record for the year with a 2.28 ERA.
