Brown Belts 5 Hits
Friday, May 24th, 1940
It doesn't happen very often, but it did for Jimmy Brown today -- a 5-hit effort. He went on a rampage at Polo Grounds IV and paced the Bees to a 10-4 win over the New York Giants.

After his dynamite batting performance, the Boston second baseman told reporters that he "just tried to get in a good count and have a good at-bat. That's all I can control."

His philosophy paid dividends today. He slammed 5 hits in 5 tries and put his name in the record book. Jimmy Brown singled in the 1st, hit an RBI single in the 2nd, hit an RBI single in the 4th, hit an RBI single in the 5th and singled in the 8th.

Brown is batting .374 this season in 31 games with no home runs, 16 RBIs and 27 runs scored. He has 49 hits in 131 at-bats.
