Waner Gets Number 2500 Wednesday, May 22nd, 1940 Paul Waner of the Pittsburgh Pirates earned his membership in the exclusive 2500-hit club this afternoon at Ebbets Field. The 37-year-old right fielder got his milestone hit in the Pirates 9-0 triumph over the Brooklyn Dodgers. Waner went 1-for-4 for the game. Waner is hitting the ball at a .340 clip over his career.
