New York Stops Strong's Hit Streak Monday, May 13th, 1940 For 20 straight games, Ted Strong tried to ignore his hitting streak. It wasn't easy. Well, the 23-year-old Boston Bees first baseman can forget about it now -- it's over, courtesy of the New York Giants. The Giants held him hitless in 4 at-bats at Braves Field today and snapped his consecutive-game hitting string at 20. There was at least one good note to the end of the streak, however, as the Bees took the win by the score of 4-0. "I tried to ignore it for weeks, but you guys in the media wouldn't let me," he joked with reporters after the game. "I'm looking forward to some peace and quiet now." This year Strong has batted at a .390 pace with 41 hits, 5 home runs, 28 RBIs and scored 16 times. |
