Koy's Hit Streak Over Sunday, May 12th, 1940 For once, it was the Brooklyn Dodgers picking up the slack for Ernie Koy. The club's "offensive catalyst," as Brooklyn manager has frequently called him, went uncharacteristically silent today and saw his 22-game hitting streak snapped by the Philadelphia Phillies. Koy was bailed out by the rest of the Dodgers, however, who stopped the Phillies, 3-0. The 30-year-old left fielder finished the day 0-for-2, and told reporters at the postgame press conference that "everybody did their job but me." "Not that it was a huge problem -- we still won the game," he said with a grin. "The streak was a good run though. I'll try to start another one tomorrow." This season Koy has hit 4 home runs and posted a .372 batting average. |
