Matlock Superb Against Chicago
Wednesday, May 1st, 1940
In a seemingly effortless performance, Leroy Matlock of the Boston Bees shot down the Chicago Cubs 2-0 on a 7-hit shutout.
"Leroy was just locating so well and using his pitches," Boston manager said later. "He wasn't leaving anything over the plate."
Matlock recorded 8 strikeouts and 1 walk in a strong outing.
"When he needed to make pitches, he elevated his game," Chicago manager said in his postgame comments to BNN. "We couldn't get a key hit off him."
